Lawnside Man Charged for Double Fatal January Crash

Press Release

Magnolia, N.J. (PRESS RELEASE) – Camden County Prosecutor Grace C. MacAulay is announcing charges in a fatal motor-vehicle crash that occurred in January of 2022.

On July 28, 2022, John Gibson, 29, of Lawnside, NJ, was arrested and charged with two counts of second-degree Vehicular Homicide by Operating a Vehicle Recklessly and causing the deaths of 68-year old John Bishop and 75-year-old Marie Endicott, both of Pine Hill, NJ.  Gibson was also charged with third degree Hindering Apprehension or Prosecution.

On January 19, 2022, officers responded to a motor-vehicle crash that occurred at approximately 9:52 a.m., involving a Lawnside Borough Fire Department fire truck and a Nissan Sentra at the intersection of Warwick Road and the White Horse Pike in Magnolia, NJ.

Both occupants of the Nissan Sentra sustained serious injuries.  They both succumbed to those injuries, and both were pronounced deceased at the scene.

An investigation determined Gibson, who was operating the fire truck on behalf of the Lawnside Borough Fire Department at the time of the crash, drove the truck into the opposing lane of travel, against the designated flow of traffic and around other vehicles that were stopped at the red light directly in front of the fire truck in the designated lane of travel, to enter the intersection.  Gibson then went through the red light at the intersection without stopping and crashed into the Nissan Sentra which was being driven by John Bishop, with Marie Endicott as the front seat passenger.

Gibson was charged on a warrant and released with conditions after having appeared before the Court.

All persons charged with criminal offenses are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law.
