Intoxicated Man Accidentally Shoots Himself With Stolen Gun During Argument Outside Club

WILKES-BARRE, PA – Police in Wilkes-Barre have reported William Stokes shot himself in the buttocks with a stolen gun while arguing with another individual on North Main Street.

According to police, on Monday, at around 4:52 pm, Wilkes Barre City Police responded to a report of an argument between males resulting in a shot being fired just north of the Blue Cross building, located at 19 N Main Street in the City of Wilkes-Barre.

“Upon police arrival, officers located a spent .45 caliber empty casing and blood in the area,” police said. “In addition, there was an intoxicated male located in the area of Heat Night Club. He was placed in custody. Two additional males exited 22 E. Union Street and were subsequently placed in custody for public drunkenness.”


Police reported, “A search of 22 E. Union Street revealed a Colt model IV 45 caliber handgun. Images were recovered of the incident that revealed that during an altercation. Stokes attempted to manipulate the firearm while in his waist band when it discharged, injuring his left buttocks.”

Stokes was treated at the hospital and transported to WB Police HQ where he was charged and arraigned.
