Columbus Murder Suspect Arrested

COLUMBUS, OH – A murder suspect in Columbus has been arrested for the July 25th shooting on West Broad Street.

According to police, on Wednesday, the suspect in this homicide was identified as Richard L. Schoonover. Zone 3 patrol officers located the suspect in the area of Alkire Road and Demorest Road, and he was taken into custody without incident.

A police report release last week said that at approximately 11:36 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 1900 Block of W. Broad Street on shots fired call.


“Officers arrived at the scene and located evidence of a shooting however, a victim was not located. A short time later, officers were dispatched to the area of Livingston Avenue and Fairwood Avenue on a report of a shooting,” the Columbus Police Department said. “Officers and Columbus Fire medic arrived at the scene and found Robert J. Lester suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. The victim was pronounced deceased at 11:40 p.m. A second victim was interviewed by officers and it was determined the shooting occurred in the 1900 Block of W. Broad Street.”

The second victim was in the vehicle at the time of the shooting but was not injured.
