Hillside Police Blotter: Here’s What’s Happening

HILLSIDE, NJ – The Hillside Police Department has issued briefs regarding recent police activity in the community from July. This information was published on August 4th, 2022.

  • Officer Doughty arrested and charged Tashaun Douglas for Hindering Apprehension on a complaint summons during a motor vehicle stop on Bailey Avenue. Mr. Douglas issued four traffic summonses and released with a Municipal Court appearance date.
  • Officers Thomas and Ramirez arrested Jack Johnson for an outstanding traffic warrant during a motor vehicle stop on N. Broad St. Mr. Johnson was released on his own recognizance.
  • Officer Nascimento arrested Faraji Singleton for outstanding warrants during a motor vehicle stop on Long Ave. Mr. Singleton was transferred to the custody of Union County Jail.
  • Officers responded to 36 Hillside Avenue (Walgreens) on a call of a male who had shoplifted items from the store. While responding, officers observed and stopped a male, later identified as Freddie Staggs, which matched the description given of the suspect. After further investigation, Mr. Staggs was arrested and charged with Shoplifting and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia on a complaint summons. He was also found to have outstanding criminal warrants. He was given a Municipal Court appearance date and transferred to the custody of Union PD.
  • On 7/5/22, it was reported by a township resident that several street signs in the area of Bloy and Tillman Streets had been defaced with bias phrases. After further investigation, Vicky LeBlanc was identified as the actor. On 7/7/22, she was arrested and charged with Criminal Mischief and Harassment on a complaint summons. Ms. Leblanc was released with a Municipal Court appearance date.
  • While monitoring traffic in the area of Liberty and Hillside Avenues, Officers Diaz and Nascimento observed a vehicle commit a traffic violation. A traffic stop was conducted and after further investigation, Babatunde Akande was arrested and charged with Driving While Intoxicated. He was issued two traffic summonses and released with a Municipal Court appearance date.
  • Officer Rodriguez arrested Muneerah Robinson for outstanding traffic warrants during a motor vehicle stop on Clark St. Ms. Robinson was issued three summonses and was released after posting bail.
  • Officers responded to 1090 N. Broad St. (Dollar General) on a call of a male who had shoplifted items from the store. While responding, officers observed and stopped a male, later identified as Devin Nunez, which matched the description given of the suspect. After further investigation, Mr. Nunez was arrested and charged with Shoplifting on a complaint summons. He was also found to have outstanding traffic warrants. He was given a Municipal Court appearance date and released on his own recognizance.
  • Officers responded to 1090 N. Broad St. (Dollar General) on a call of a female who had shoplifted items from the store. The officers observed and stopped a female, identified as Abigail Lopez, which matched the description given of the suspect. After further investigation, Ms. Lopez was arrested and charged with Shoplifting, Possession of CDS and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia on a complaint summons. She was also found to have outstanding warrants. Ms. Lopez was given a Superior Court appearance date and transferred to the custody of Hamilton PD.
  • Officers Medina and Nascimento arrested Andre Williams for outstanding criminal warrants. Mr. Williams was transferred to the custody of Newark PD.
