Man Charged After Three-Month-Old Baby Left to Die Unattended in Car in Allegheny County

UPPER ST. CLAIR, PA – A three-month-old baby died after being left unattended in a car back in June and this week, the man responsible the child’s death was arrested and charged.

According to police, on Thursday, June 16, 2022 at approximately 5:00 p.m., the Upper Saint Clair Emergency Dispatch Center received a 9-1-1 call regarding an unresponsive 3-month-old child in the 300 block of Fort Couch Road.

“First responders found the victim unresponsive and began cardiopulmonary resuscitation. The victim was pronounced deceased on scene. Investigators determined the infant was left unattended inside the father’s Toyota Sienna minivan. Upper Saint Clair Police requested the investigative assistance of the County Police Homicide Unit,” the Allegheny Police Department reported. “After completing the investigation and consulting with the Medical Examiner and District Attorney’s Office, detectives determined that 33-year-old Khang Nguyen of Peters Township, Washington County, was the person responsible for the child’s death.”


On August 10, 2022, detectives obtained a warrant for Nguyen’s arrest, charging him with involuntary manslaughter, endangering the welfare of children, and recklessly endangering another person. Nguyen turned himself in to authorities on August 11, 2022 at 7:30 a.m.
