NEWARK, NJ – Newark police are searching for a suspect wanted for an armed robbery and assault two weeks ago.

The agency issued the following public service announcement:

Newark Public Safety Director Fritz G. Fragé requests the public’s help with identifying the below-pictured suspect, one of two men who robbed a victim on July 24, 2022.

Police responded to a call about the robbery that occurred at approximately 3:07 a.m. in the 100 block of Christie Street. The victim was walking on that street when two men started following him. Moments later, one of the men pushed the victim to the ground, punched him in the face, and took his wallet containing several hundred dollars. Both men fled northbound on Brill Street, but one of them – Jose J. Quinonescruz, 39, of Newark – was arrested on August 1, 2022. He was also charged with conspiracy.

The suspect pictured below is described as a light brown skin male, possibly Hispanic. He was wearing a white T-shirt, olive-colored shorts, and blue and white sneakers. The suspect possibly goes by the nickname “JC.”
