TOMS RIVER, NJ  – The teen curfew which prohibits juveniles from roaming the streets at night has been expanded from an 11 pm start to a 10 pm start.

That curfew was enacted after residents of the shore community petitioned the town council and Mayor Maurice Hill to lockdown the community after dark after a series of incidents with unruly teens created quality of life issues for residents.

“Unfortunately, we are forced to reduce the curfew to 10:00 PM to further help curb the juvenile issues we are still experiencing in the beach section of Toms River, ” the Toms River Police Department said today.

“Effective today, August 11. 2022, people 17 years old and younger are subject to a 10PM-5am curfew in the barrier island neighborhoods of Toms River. The curfew will be in effect until September 30, 2022,” the department said. “On June 13, a curfew was order from 11PM through 5am. This change to a 10PM start time was made in response to requests by barrier island residents and businesses and to make the curfew hours consistent with neighboring communities.”
