‘They Made That Very Clear’: DCNF Reporter Debunks DC Mayor’s Claims About Migrants — Again

A Daily Caller News Foundation reporter again debunked claims by the mayor of Washington, D.C. that migrants were being “tricked” into taking buses during a Monday appearance on Newsmax.

“It’s completely voluntary and they made that very clear,” Jennie Taer, an investigative reporter with the DCNF, said when discussing what migrants said about the claims by Democratic Mayor Muriel Bowser of Washington. “I actually didn’t even have to really ask them, initially. They told me that they signed a waiver to get on the bus when they are down at the border, that they had no money, that they had nothing in the United States with them.”

“They had, you know, been robbed on their way on their journey. They had to pay a smuggler,” Taer continued, “So the free bus, that’s a great option for that, because they were trying to get to New York City where they said they would get public benefits, and once they got to New York City, they told me that they called the city hotline and that someone came and now they’re being helped by a local non-profit.”

Republican Govs. Greg Abbott of Texas and Doug Ducey of Arizona began offering migrants free bus rides to D.C. and New York City in an effort to address the situation on the border.

“New York City is the ideal destination for these migrants, who can receive the abundance of city services and housing that Mayor Eric Adams has boasted about within the sanctuary city,” Abbott said in a statement earlier this year.

Bowser and Democratic Mayor Eric Adams of New York City criticized Abbott and Ducey for sending the migrants on buses.

“They were so happy to be in D.C. and they were happy to be getting on the next bus to New York City and when they arrived, they were so happy in taking selfies and pictures and added they wanted to be there and they were happy to be safe in the United States,” Taer said.
