UTICA, NY – The Utica Police Department has charged a 31-year-old woman for taking over $50,000 from a company where she worked over a three year period.

According to police, in April the department was contacted by a local engineering firm regarding irregularities in their financial accounting.

“This was noticed during an annual evaluation of their finances, and appeared as if losses were being noticed up to three years in the past,” UPD said in a statement. “Based on the possible total being missing, the investigation was given to a member of the Criminal Investigations Division. Through numerous financial institution subpoenas, forensic accounting, and obtaining the true and altered banking statements, it was determined that an employee had stolen over $50,000 during a three year period.”
