21-Year-Old Woman Struck While Crossing Route 72 in Manahawkin

STAFFORD TOWNSHIP, NJ – police in Stafford Township are investigating after a 21-year old woman was struck by a car while crossing Route 72 with a group of friends early Monday morning.

The incident happened at approximately 12:48 AM, when the Stafford Township Police Department responded to a motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian being struck on Route 72 in the area of Marsha Drive.

“Investigation indicated Kathryn Loftus, 27 years old of Harvey Cedars, New Jersey was traveling east on Route 72 in the right lane of travel operating her 2019 white Honda CRV,” police said. “At this time, she struck a 21 year old female from Oakland, New Jersey identified as Alexa Paradiso. Paradiso and a group of friends were attempting to cross Route 72 at Marsha Drive into Beach Haven West.”


As a result of the accident, she was flown to Atlantic City Trauma Center for extensive head and external/internal injuries.

According to police, no charges have been filed against Loftus as a result of this investigation.

Route 72 eastbound was completely closed down for approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes, and traffic was diverted through Beach Haven West.
