Chicago Men Arrested for Catalytic Converter Thefts in New Rochelle

NEW ROCHELLE, NY – Police in New Rochelle have arrested two Chicago men and part of a countywide operation to crack down against catalytic converter thieves.

According to police, on Friday, New Rochelle police officers were taking part in “Operation Thundercat,” a countywide operation organized by the Westchester County Police to combat recent thefts of vehicles and catalytic converters.  

“At about 3:36 AM, information was received from the Westchester County Police Real Time Crime Center that Greenwich, CT Police were pursuing a vehicle southbound on I-95 for burglarizing a Saks Fifth Ave store,” police said. ” New Rochelle Police and Westchester County Police were in the area and were able to use new pursuit mitigation techniques developed by Westchester County Police to safely and successfully deflate the tires of the suspect’s vehicle.”

 The vehicle came to a stop on I-95 and, after a brief foot pursuit, two suspects were taken into custody by New Rochelle Police.  


Alton Jackson, 34, and Mykuan Smith, 28, both of Chicago were arrested and charged.
