Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis of Florida slammed critics from California during remarks he gave Thursday.

“I hear a lot of people chirping about Florida from California. They’re so worried about Florida,” DeSantis said. “They can’t even keep the power on in California, are you kidding me?”

“Someone told me that they will be able, once all the people that want to move to Florida move out of there, then maybe they’ll have adequate power. But I mean it’s just — it’s just ridiculous. And so — you know, we’ve been able to do that,” DeSantis continued. “Part of it, though, is just, you know, we stood for people’s rights, we stood for people’s freedoms and — and obviously the state has done very well. We have more people employed in Florida than we did prior to COVID.”

Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom of California has targeted Florida, telling that state’s residents that “freedom” was “under attack.”

Officials in California urged residents to conserve power during a heat wave to avoid rolling blackouts.

“The power grid operator expects to call on Californians for voluntary energy conservation via Flex alerts over the long weekend,” the California Independent System Operator said in an Aug. 30 alert that urged residents to set their thermostat to 78 degrees, not charge electric cars, avoid using large appliances and turn off lights.

Newsom did not immediately respond to a request for comment from the Daily Caller News Foundation.
