Perp Used Slight of Hand Trick to Steal iPad from Disabled Man

COLUMBUS, OH – A disabled man was robbed while trying to sell an Apple iPad through an online marketplace.

Columbus Police Department detectives are asking the public to help to identify a suspect who used a sleight of hand trick to steal an Apple iPad from a disabled man.

“The victim was contacted by the suspect to purchase the tablet from an online marketplace listing. Surveillance video in the 8300 block of Edgington Drive East captured the meetup on camera. The suspect showed the victim the money while sitting in his vehicle but handed the victim an empty envelope instead, before driving away with the iPad,” police said.

The suspect is described as a black male, with short hair, in his mid-40s, who was wearing a face mask. The vehicle was an older model tan minivan, possibly a Mitsubishi or Chrysler.


According to police investigating the incident, no suspects or motives have been announced at this time. No arrests have been made.
