EVESHAM, NJ – A 35-year-old man from Pine Hill was arrested and charged after fleeing police who attempted to initiate a traffic stop for suspicious activity in a school parking lot.

On Sunday, September 4, at 2:36 AM, an officer on patrol observed a suspicious vehicle parked and occupied in the parking lot of the Richard Rice Elementary School, 50 Crown Royal Parkway.

“Upon attempting to make contact with the occupant(s) of the vehicle, the vehicle drove away slowly, at which time a motor vehicle stop was attempted. The vehicle refused to stop for the officer’s emergency lights and siren and the suspect initiated a motor vehicle pursuit. The driver then began driving evasively, at which time the pursuit was terminated, as a means to protect public safety. Prior to the pursuit termination, the officer was able to obtain the vehicle’s license plate,” police said.

Later in the morning police responded to the report of a found handgun.

“At 9:13 AM on the same date, police were called to Kings Grant Drive in the area where the eluding had taken place earlier that morning, for the report of a handgun that was found in the roadway by a resident walking their dog. A defaced Glock handgun, magazine, and two rounds of 9mm ammunition were recovered from the scene,” police said. “Continued follow-up investigation resulted in the driver of the vehicle being identified as Antonio Lowther. Additional evidence was obtained that proved Lowther had thrown the Glock handgun from the vehicle during the pursuit. Lowther was charged accordingly and a warrant was issued for his arrest.”

On Friday, at approximately 6:30 AM, Lowther was taken into custody without incident at his residence in Pine Hill by members of the NJSP Fugitive Unit and U.S. Marshall’s Service NY/NJ Regional Fugitive Task Force. Lowther was processed and lodged in the Burlington County Jail.
