Shoplifters Caught After Fleeing Police in Stolen Car

EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ – On September 12, 2022, at approximately 23:25 hours, East Brunswick Patrol officers responded to Walgreens (421 Ryders Lane) for the report of a shoplifting in progress. Prior to the arrival of officers, the suspects were observed leaving the scene in a blue sedan. Patrolman Michael Manning located the suspect vehicle, reported stolen out of New Brunswick, traveling northbound on Ryders Lane. Several officers responded to the area, conducted a high-risk motor vehicle stop, and took the suspects into custody.

The driver, Cedric Johnson (55 YOA from Somerset, NJ), was processed and charged with Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance, Receiving Stolen Property, Shoplifting, Resisting Arrest, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Driving While Intoxicated (DWI).

The passenger, Darrin Shefton (55 YOA from Edison, NJ), was processed and charged with Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.


Both Johnson and Shefton were subsequently transported to Middlesex County Adult Correctional Center.
