Woman Charged with Murder After Man dies from Stabbing Injuries

JERSEY CITY, NJ – The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit has arrested a 28-year-old woman after a man died as a result of injuries he sustained from a stabbing in Jersey City.

Sykirrah Kirkland, of Jersey City, is charged with Murder in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:11-3a, a crime of the first degree, Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:39-4d, a crime of the third degree, and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:39-5d, a crime of the fourth degree. Kirkland was arrested at the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office on Wednesday, September 14, 2022, and transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility pending her first court appearance.

On Saturday, February 19, 2022, at approximately 8:05 p.m., the Jersey City Police Department responded to 67 Lexington Avenue on reports of a fight. Responding officer located a man – later identified as Omar Boatwright, 29, of Jersey City – with multiple stab wounds and he was transported to Jersey City Medical Center. On Saturday, July 9, 2022, Boatwright was readmitted to the hospital to be treated for complications relating to injuries from the stabbing and died on Friday, July 16, 2022. The Regional Medical Examiner’s Office determined the Cause of Death to be Complications of a Stab Wound to the Abdomen/Delayed Death and the Manner of Death to be Homicide.


The above charges are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty. R.P.C.3.6(b)(6)
