NEW YORK, NY – The New York City Police Department today announced that a 17-year-old girl shot and killed sitting on a stoop with her friends was most likely not the intended target of the shooting. 17-year-old Shayma Roman was shot in the face on Wednesday after gunfire erupted at about 6 p.m. in the area of 1225 Eastern Parkway in Crown Heights.

As Roman and her friends were hanging out in front of the building, two unidentified males approached the group and began shooting.

According to witnesses, Roman’s sister was seen holding her before she was rushed to Brookdale Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Detectives with the New York City Police Department today said the suspects fled the scene on a scooter. At this time, no arrests have been made, and no suspects have been identified.
