68-year-old woman found dead in Somerville house fire

SOMERVILLE, NJ – A 68-year-old woman was found unresponsive by firefighters inside her burning home in Somerville on Sunday.

Responding firefighters attempted to perform CPR along with emergency medical technicians but were unable to revive her. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Firefighters entered the home on West Cliff Street after seeing smoke coming from the structure.

“Firefighter discovered a small fire at the rear of the first floor and in the basement of the residence, which was extinguished by Firefighters. Firefighters subsequently discovered an unresponsive female inside of the residence,” the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office said.


Police did not identify the woman at this time.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Somerset County prosecutor’s office.
