NEW YORK, NY –

Dozens of New Jersey state troopers took part in the annual tunnels to Towers 5K run fundraiser to help victims the 9/11 attack on September 11th, 2001. The event, organized as a tribute to fallen York City firefighter Stephen Siller has grown into a year-around fundraiser and awareness for all of the victims who lost their life in that day.

Acting Attorney General Matthew Platkin joined Lieutenant Colonel Jeanne Hengemuhle and a contingent of troopers as they participated in the Tunnel to Towers 5k Run.

The organization has since grown into one that supports the families of fallen police officers and firefighters.

“The run serves as a day of remembrance of those lost on that day, as well as those lost in the days, months, and years following the attack. Proceeds from the event support the foundation’s programs, including those that benefit first responders, and catastrophically injured service members,” Platkin said in a statement. “This year, the family of fallen New Jersey State Police Lieutenant Matthew Razukas #5939 was honored by the foundation. Lieutenant Razukas passed away on July 27, 2021, from complications as a result of contracting COVID-19 while working at Troop “D” Galloway Station.”
