FORT MEYERS, FL – Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno toured the beachfront area of Fort Meyers that was crushed this week by Hurricane Ian. Sheriff Marceno was joined by officers from the Polk County Sheriff’s Department on Friday.

“Fort Myers Beach will never be the same, but we’ll work to rebuild it,” Sheriff Marceno said today.

Marceno reported that the Fort Meyers Beach Pier had been completely destroyed by Ian and showed residents the damage along the entire beachfront.

Residents of the city are without power and water today.

Ian’s storm surge blew out walls and windows of many homes and structures, causing an untold amount of damage. Along the beachfront blocks of homes were simply gone, pushed off their foundation and ground into broken pieces by Ian’s powerful winds and surge.
