Fire displaces seven from home in Newark

NEWARK, NJ – Seven people, including four adults and three children, have been displaced after a fire gutted their home at 154 North 6th Street early Friday morning. At around 2:12 a.m., Newark firefighters responded to the fully engulfed two-story wood-frame home on 6th Street.

Upon their arrival, firefighters observed heavy fire on the top floor of the building.

During their effort to extinguish the fire, one firefighter experienced breathing difficulty, was treated at the scene by EMS, and remained on duty.


The fire was considered under control at 3:27 a.m. Four adults and three children have been relocated.

No other injuries were reported.

The cause and origin of this fire are under investigation by the Newark Department of Public Safety’s Arson Unit.
