(Reuters) -Police have arrested a gunman armed with a rifle who opened fire inside a hotel in Dearborn, Michigan, injuring at least one person, after containing him inside the building, authorities said.

The incident occurred on Thursday afternoon at a Hampton Inn in downtown Dearborn, outside Detroit, Dearborn Police spokesman Dan Bartok told reporters. Police began evacuating patrons and employees of the hotel after arriving at the scene, he added.

Bartok said police had negotiated with the suspect, who has not been identified. After about six hours, the suspect was taken into custody without incident, the Michigan State Police said.

Authorities will investigate the incident, the Michigan State Police added.

Bartok said one person had been transported to a local hospital for treatment, without providing details. He said the suspect’s motive for the shooting was unclear.
