NEW YORK, NY – The tip of a New York City cop’s nose was nearly slashed completely off while he was attempting to take an emotionally disturbed suspect into custody early Thursday morning.

Police were called to the intersection of Fordham Road and Grand Road in Fordham Heights at around 7:20 am on Thursday on the report of a man armed with a knife inside a grocery store.

Upon their arrival, the knife-wielding suspect had fled, but officers located him a block away and attempted to make an arrest.

As police approached, the man rushed one of the officers, slashing his nose with a sharp knife. The knife was recovered after the suspect was cuffed by responding officers.

A second police officer tasered the suspect, and he was taken into custody. The officer was rushed to St. Barnabas Hospital where he was treated for his severe injury.

Later, a photo showed the police officer’s nose with a large slash
