Libertarian Candidate: ‘The Age Of Consent’ Should Be ‘Up For A Vote’

Arizona Libertarian Party candidate for Senate Marc Victor said during a debate Thursday that the age of consent should be left to a vote.

Victor is running in the Arizona Senate race against Republican Blake Masters and Incumbent Democrat Sen. Mark Kelly. During Thursday’s debate, Victor asked what the “age of consent” should be, a question upon which he believes “reasonable minds” disagree.

“What should the age of consent be? This is something that reasonable minds disagree on. That should be up for a vote,” he said.

Victor said he believes citizens of the United States should be able to vote on many things, though he acknowledged certain rights should not be subject to the whims of democracy.

“Everything else we are voting on, that has anything to do with your body, your property, your money, your time, that’s what freedom is about, none of that should be up for a vote,” he added.

Victor, a criminal defense attorney, has been a Libertarian Senate candidate for over 10 years, according to his LinkedIn. He served as a U.S. Marine from 1985 to 1992, according to Ballotpedia.

Kelly leads Master by roughly four points, according to RealClearPolitics’ polling average.

Victor could not immediately be reached for comment. The Libertarian Party of Arizona did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment.
