TOMS RIVER, NJ – The Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office will be handling the investigation of a New Jersey Office of Public Integrity and Accountability after she was arrested and charged for trespassing a North Wildwood bar last week.
“The Office of the Attorney General is aware of the incident and the matter is under review. In an abundance of caution and to avoid the appearance of a potential conflict, we have asked that the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office conduct an independent review of the incident,” the Attorney General’s Office told Shore News Network when asked about the incident.
This week, Timothy Smith, an attorney representing the state official said his client was falsely arrested.
“Ms. Oliveira is the victim of a false arrest stemming from a legally defective charging document. Irrefutable video footage confirms this,” Smith said in a statement. “There thus exists an obligation on the part of the prosecutorial authority assigned to screen this case to ensure its swift and summary dismissal in the interests of justice.”
It was an embarrassing video posted by BreakingAC initially reported New Jersey OAG Detective Sgt. Danielle Oliveira being arrested for trespassing inside a North Wildwood bar after she was told by management she was not allowed inside.
Police said Oliveira was kicked out of Keenan’s Irish Pub multiple times for causing a disturbance.
North Wildwood police officers became involved in the incident when they saw Oliveira arguing with the bar staff. She was warned by the responding officer not to return to the bar. She was even told if she returned, she would be arrested. The state agent snuck back into the bar through an exit.
Officers went back into the bar to arrest Oliveira for trespassing.
“Excuse me, you’re under arrest for trespassing,” the officer said. “Put your hands behind your back. Don’t resist.”
“Time out, Time out, Time out, listen, wait,” she said to officers.
When asked to confirm her status as a police officer. Oliveira requested a female supervisor. She said she worked for the New Jersey State Police.
Oliveira got testy with a female police officer who responded to support the male officers at the scene.
“Do not touch that,” she said when the female officer removed her pocketbook. “That’s a f*cking four grand bag.”
She was placed inside a paddywagon where she was transported to police headquarters for booking.
The New Jersey Office of Integrity is tasked with police New Jersey’s police officers.
“The Office of Public Integrity & Accountability (OPIA) is tasked with a dual mission: to investigate violations of public trust and to develop policies that would rebuild faith in both government and our criminal justice system,”the agency’s website reads. “OPIA includes both criminal prosecutors and trained investigators, who work together to prosecute cases involving public corruption, criminal violations of civil rights laws, and illegal use of force by law enforcement officers.”
