Iowa-based pizza chain celebrates Mexican-style pizzas in honor of the original Taco Joe
Bettendorf, IA (-) The battle of choosing between Mexican food and pizza is over because Happy Joe’s Pizza & Ice Cream has created the best of both worlds for guests in its Mexican pizza lineup!
Known for being the Taco Pizza Originators, Happy Joe’s is spotlighting its fan-favorite Mexican pizzas during its popular Mexi-Fest at participating locations — just in time for Cinco de Mayo! Before the Taco Joe became such an icon, it all started out with a couple who owned a local Happy Joe’s franchise in Muscatine, Iowa. In an effort to compete with a neighboring taco shop, Happy Joe’s Muscatine franchisees asked Founder Joe Whitty if they could add tacos to the menu. To stay true to the Happy Joe’s brand, Whitty brainstormed and created a delicious taco-style pizza with ingredients he found at the grocery store, leading to the birth of the first-ever Taco Joe! In addition to the world-famous Taco Joe – made with Happy Joe’s special refried bean sauce, taco-seasoned beef and sausage, topped with lettuce, tomatoes and taco chips – guests can also choose from Happy Joe’s line-up of Mexican-style pizzas during Mexi-Fest:
- Taco Supreme – Happy Joe’s original Taco Joe plus sour cream, black olives and onions.
- Chicken Taco – Made just like the Taco Joe, but with chicken!
- Chicken Taco Supreme – Made just like the Taco Supreme, but with chicken!
- Nacho Joe – Rich, creamy and spicy nacho cheese, taco-seasoned beef and sausage, topped with lettuce, tomatoes and Happy Joe’s taco chips.
- Nacho Joe Supreme – Spicy nacho cheese, taco-seasoned beef and sausage, topped with lettuce, tomatoes, sour cream, onions, black olives and Happy Joe’s taco chips.
- Matador – Refried bean sauce, sausage, taco-seasoned beef, onions and choice of jalapeño peppers or mild chili peppers.
