Halloween Shootings Kill Several, Injure Dozens In Night Of Carnage

Shootings terrorized cities across the country Monday night, killing several people and hurting many more.

Crime has surged over recent years, with the estimated aggregate national murder volume increasing by 4.3% in 2021, adding to the 29.4% rise from 2019 to 2020, according to the FBI’s recently-released NIBRS trend analysis report. Halloween night saw several violent shootings that claimed the lives of several Americans as the crime wave continues to afflict the nation.

A drive-by shooting in Chicago’s Lawndale neighborhood struck 11 adults, a three-year-old, an 11-year-old and a 13-year-old, leaving a few in critical condition, Police Supt. David Brown announced. At least two shooters in a car fired randomly into a crowd, he said.

A Kansas City, Kansas, Halloween party attended by an estimated 100 high-schoolers reportedly saw one person killed and at least six others hurt when gunfire broke out.

“This stuff in the community has to stop. There’s far too many guns out here,” Police Chief Karl Oakman said.

Police said three people died and eight were injured in shootings across Philadelphia from Monday afternoon to Tuesday morning, ABC 6 reported. A Monday night shooting in Raleigh, North Carolina, killed a 16-year-old boy and hurt two of his friends, with one of them experiencing a serious injury, the mother of the deceased told WRAL News. It was not immediately clear if the victims knew the shooter, law enforcement said.

Rapper Takeoff, a member of Migos, was shot and killed early Tuesday morning at a Billiards & Bowling in Houston, Texas. Two other people were taken to the hospital.

A 14-year-old boy was shot and killed in a Washington D.C. shooting Monday night, police revealed. A drive-by shooting in Seattle hospitalized two people, according to local authorities.

An estimated 20,966 firearm homicides happened in the U.S. last year, resulting in a roughly 8.3% higher rate than in 2020, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

About 56% of respondents to an October Gallup poll said crime in their area had risen compared to the previous year, a higher percentage than any time since 1972.
