Two injured after plane crashes into West Babylon Cemetery

WEST BABYLON, NY – A plane crashed into a cemetery in West Babylon on Saturday, about two miles from Republic Airport in East Farmingdale.

According to the Suffolk County police, the passenger and pilot suffered only minor injuries. They were both taken to the hospital, where they are expected to make a full recovery.

According to flight records, the twin-piston Beechcraft Duke plane left Burlington International Airport at around 12:15 pm. The plane flew at an altitude of 20,000 feet before descending to 10,000 feet as it neared Republic Airport. The plane descended to 4,000 feet during its approach, then appeared to encounter trouble on its final descent.


At around 1:50 pm, the plane crashed into the Beth Moses Cemetery in West Babylon. Suffolk County police officers and East Farmingdale firefighters were the first responders at the scene of the crash.

Fortunately, the pilot and passenger only suffered minor injuries. They were transported to a local hospital where they are expected to make a full recovery.
