Chris Smith easily defeats Democrat challenger in New Jersey’s 4th Congressional District

TOMS RIVER, NJ – Congressman Chris Smith easily won his bid for re-election against Democrat challenger Matt Jenkins on Tuesday.

The final result was a 71% to 27% victory for the incumbent Republican. Smith received 110,993 votes compared to Jenkins’ 43,833.

Third-party candidates in the race, Hank Schroeder, Jason Cullen, Pam Daniels, and David Schmidt combined, received just over 2,000 votes.

Smith, 69, has been a member of Congress since 1980.

Smith thanked his wife Marie for his victory saying she has been an inspirational part of his team since day one.

This year, Smith faced a primary challenge from Republican Mike Crispi. He ended up defeating Crispi 58% to 37%.
