MSNBC Contributor Casts Doubt On Georgia Election: ‘We Can’t Say’ If It’s ‘Fair And Equitable’

MSNBC contributor Jason Johnson cast doubt on the election results, claiming Tuesday afternoon that voter suppression took place in Georgia, despite reports of high turnout.

“I think this is the greatest indicator that we always have to talk about voter suppression. It’s almost 5:00. In the state of Georgia, thanks to Brian Kemp and Raffensberger, they changed the state law so that you cannot get a provisional ballot in Georgia before 5:00,” Johnson told host Nicolle Wallace. “So, if you waited in line for two and a half hours, got there, and they said oh, there’s a mistake, you can’t get a provisional ballot here. The level of voter suppression is beyond anything that we saw in 2018.”

“So, I think it’s completely up in the air. This has been youth turnout at levels we haven’t expected,” Johnson continued. “Democrats feel confident, Republicans feel confident, but we can’t say that whatever happens tonight is a fair and equitable election, because there have been too many laws to keep people from expressing themselves.”

Georgia reported substantial turnout in early voting in October, despite claims from Democratic gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams and President Joe Biden, who were among those labeling the 2021 election integrity law as “Jim Crow 2.0.” Abrams refused to concede to Kemp in 2018, claiming “concession means to acknowledge an action is right, true, or proper” and that she could not do that, alleging voter suppression.

Former President Donald Trump claimed that irregularities took place in Georgia, a state he narrowly lost in 2020.
