Missing man rescued along Nyack Beach Trail

UPPER NYACK – First responders searched for a man who went missing on Tuesday along the Nyack Beach Trail after it was reported by his wife that she had not heard from him since he left earlier in the day.

According to police, at around 4:45 pm, the Clarkstown Police Department received a report of the missing man and began searching the area.

“The wife of the missing male stated that her husband had left their residence earlier in the day on foot and she had not heard from him,” the Clarkstown Police Department said. “She had stated her husband does frequently take walks in the Nyack beach area. An exhaustive search was conducted by patrol officers, CPD K9 and our Drone Unit of the surrounding neighborhood, Nyack State Beach and Hook Mtn, which did not lead us to locating the missing party.”


The next morning, at around 8:10 am, park rangers reported that a jogger along the trail heard a man yelling for help in a heavily wooded area of the trail.

“Officers arrived on the scene and spoke with the jogger, who directed them to the area where she last heard the yelling,” the department said today.

According to police, officers and Rockland paramedics located the injured man in steep, rough terrain.

Mandeep Tiwana was rescued by the Nyack Fire Department High Angle Rescue Team.

“Mr. Tiwana was placed in a stokes basket by rescuers and raised up to a hiking trail above, where Rockalnd Medics and Nyack Ambulance transported him to Montefiore Nyack Hospital with non life threatening injuries,” the department said.

Two hours after the jogger heard the screams, he was transported by the rescue team where is his recovering from minor injuries.
