Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel told Fox News host Martha MacCallum the party had a “great” night Tuesday, despite underwhelming performance.

“I think the night turned out great. We’re retiring Nancy Pelosi. There was a wave that happened last night,” McDaniel said. “We’re waving goodbye to Speaker Pelosi and we’re gonna have a Republican majority in the house, which also means we’re gonna be able to stop this disastrous Biden agenda that is hurting the American people. It is on track with what we were expecting.”

Republicans underperformed expectations Tuesday, with notable losses including that of Dr. Mehmet Oz to Democratic Lt. Gov. John Fetterman of Pennsylvania and retired general Don Bolduc, who failed to unseat Democratic Sen. Maggie Hassan of New Hampshire. Former NFL running back Herschel Walker trailed Democratic Sen. Rafael Warnock of Georgia in a race headed to a Dec. 6 runoff.

“[It d]idn’t happen in the way that a lot of people thought it would in other places like Texas,” MaCallum responded. “What do you say about that?”

“I think Texas is exactly what we thought. Myra Flores went into a much more difficult district. Remember, you’re talking about D+19 or D+17 districts. We were competing there and we held our own. But we won with Monica de la Cruz in Texas 15, we won with Wesley Hunt,” McDaniel said. “We picked up two seats and Abbott won against a third-time loser Beto O’Rourke despite all the money he had. We beat Stacey Abrams. We retired Sean Patrick Maloney, the head of the DCCC. We beat Elaine Luria.”

McDaniel called out critics who lambasted the party’s performance in light of Tuesday’s results.

“This is a good night for Republicans. Anybody saying otherwise is just wrong,” she said. “When you win the game, you don’t say ‘Oh, did you win by one point or two points?’ We won the game. We just won the Super Bowl last night.”
