Man shot and killed inside Scott Township office building over dispute with Taco Bell employee

PITTSBURGH, PA – A 32-year-old man was shot and killed inside a Scott Township office building by a Taco Bell employee, police reported today.

Scott Township police responded to the 1900 block of Cochran Road for a male shot. When first responders arrived, they found a 32-year-old male shot inside the Northwestern Mutual Office Building.

Police identified 23-year-old Zairyre Simmons of Pittsburgh as the shooter. Simmons is an employee of Taco Bell. The victim was his manager who had written him up for violating company policy days earlier.


“We are shocked and saddened to hear that this happened,” Taco Bell said in a statement. “We understand that the franchise owner and operator of this location is working with the local authorities in their investigation. Our thoughts are with the affected family of the team member in this difficult time.”

“When first responders arrived, they found a 32-year-old male shot inside the Northwestern Mutual Office Building,” the Allegheny Police Department said. “Employees in the building attempted lifesaving measures, but the victim was pronounced deceased at the scene by paramedics.”

At about 7:45 p.m., Simmons turned himself in to County police. Simmons will be housed in the Allegheny County Jail awaiting arraignment.
