ATLANTIC CITY, NJ – Seven people were injured including five kids when a dog fight broke out in the area of Baltic Avenue in Atlantic City Tuesday afternoon.

A spokesperson with the Atlantic City Police Department said the incident started when boys walking their two dogs along Baltic Avenue encountered a third dog.

“Preliminary reports indicate two juveniles were walking their dogs in a fenced-in area in the 1300 block of Baltic Avenue when the dogs encountered a third dog. The dogs became aggressive towards each other, prompting them to break free from the juveniles,” the Atlantic City Police Department said. “Without warning, it appears the dogs then turned on the juveniles and began attacking them. Additional juveniles and adults became involved in an effort to assist the juveniles from being attacked. The dogs then turned on them as well.”

Officer John Bell arrived at the scene with an employee from the Atlantic City Engineer’s Office, who was able to hold down one of the attacking dogs until animal control officers arrived to contain the dogs.

Two adults, ages 37 and 62 were bitten by the dogs. Five children were rushed to the hospital for treatment. Their ages ranged from 10 to 17-years-old.

The dogs remain in the custody of Animal Control, pending the outcome of the investigation. All seven victims were treated at AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center.
