JESSUP, MD – In November, a group of employees pooled their money and hopes for a piece of the record-breaking Powerball jackpot. Several of them purchased tickets as it rolled, week after week, but decided to team up as the jackpot climbed over $1 billion.
Even though they did not win the jackpot in the Nov. 2 drawing, they did win a third-tier prize of $50,000.
The group’s leader is a 31-year-old Pasadena woman. Their lucky ticket was purchased at High’s located at 2861 Jessup Road in Jessup.
Using a set of important dates as inspiration, the Anne Arundel County resident is also responsible for selecting the winning numbers.
“I was so excited, I think I almost had a heart attack,” the happy player said. She didn’t know what the other winners planned to do with their share of the prize, but she said the newfound fortune came just in time for the holidays. She and her husband plan to shower their son with holiday gifts.
The pot will be split between 30 people.
