Suspect with outstanding warrant captured after threatening woman with handgun

On November 22, 2022 at approximately10:45PM Oneida County Dispatch sent Utica Police Patrol units to the area of Oneida Square for an argument during which the caller, stated that a male had just threatened her with a handgun and then placed the handgun into a bookbag.

UTICA, NY – The Utica Police Department has reported the arrest of DaAndre Watkins, 21 after it was reported that he threatened a woman with a handgun. A New York State trooper on patrol in the area responded to the call at around 10:45 pm in the area of Oneida Square.

The woman had told 911 dispatchers that she was involved in an argument with a man who had threatened her with a gun. She told police the suspect placed the gun inside a bookbag and fled.

“A New York State Trooper was patrolling in the area heard the dispatch and also began an area check. A short distance away the Trooper witnessed a male matching the exact description given running for an unknown reason,” the Utica Police Department said. “The Trooper requested the male to stop and began to conduct an interview of the party, who was still in possession of the book bag.”

Watkins was found to have an outstanding warrant out of Ilion. Police searched him and found a 9mm handgun inside his bookbag.
