A Pennsylvania school board member is resigning after saying she will not vote a “cis white male” for board president, according to a Monday statement by the school.

Upper Moreland school board member Jennifer Solot is resigning from the school board effective Jan. 2, 2023, following backlash from her comments on Dec. 6 that the community “took offense to,” according to a Monday statement by the school. Solot said electing “the only cis white male” as board president would send “the wrong message” to the community.

“The comments made by Ms. Solot at the board reorganization meeting were solely hers and were not intended to represent the opinion of the entire UMSD Board of Directors or the district as a whole,” the statement said. ‘Indeed, Board Director Greg D’Elia, who was the subject of her comments, says that he ‘supports diversity, but these comments did not further diversity and reflected poorly on our community.’”

Solot had served on the Upper Moreland school board for five years and is stepping down because she “does not want to be a distraction from the great things happening” within the school district, the statement said. The school included that they do not discriminate on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity and work to hire for positions based on qualifications.

“Upper Moreland School District is committed to providing students, staff and the community a school environment in which all feel safe, valued, and heard,” the statement wrote. “This is a commitment we take very seriously.”

Upper Moreland School District referred the Daily Caller News Foundation to their statement.
