BERKELEY TOWNSHIP, NJ – Three people were injured in a two-vehicle crash in Berkeley Township Monday morning. Shortly after police arrived and the occupants were out of the vehicles, one of them caught fire.

The crash occurred on Atlantic City Boulevard.

According to the Berkeley Township Police Department, “Preliminary investigations revealed that a Honda CRV driven by Frank Schmitt Jr ,77 of Ocean Gate, attempted to make a left-hand turn from TD Bank and head North on Atlantic City Blvd. While making the left-hand turn Schmitt turned into the southbound lane of Atlantic City Blvd, causing a head-on collision with a Ford Escort.”

The Honda CRV jumped a curb and came to rest in the grass in front of the nearby TD Bank branch.

The Ford Escort ended in the Kearny Bank parking lot where it caught fire and became fully engulfed.

“Berkeley Township EMS transported the driver of the escort to Community Medical Center for injuries sustained from the crash,” BTPD reported. “Bayville Volunteer EMS transported Schmitt and his passenger to Community Medical Center for leg pain.”

The fire was extinguished by the Bayville Fire Company.
