SCHENECTADY, NY – Authorities are widening their search for a missing 14-year-old girl in Schenectady after a citywide search on Wednesday.

Today, the Schenectady Police Department announced it has requested the assistance of the New York State Police and multiple law enforcement agencies.

Samantha Humphrey has now been missing since November. Her jacket was found days among rocks on the banks of the Mohawk River.

Those agencies will be conducting an enhanced search throughout the day on Thursday.

“We continue to look for Samantha Humphrey and evidence in this missing person case,” the department said. “It will focus on an approximate four-mile area, ranging from the Stockade neighborhood in Schenectady to the Rexford Bridge in Niskayuna. Throughout the day, the search will include New York State Police Aviation, dive teams, and multiple members of law enforcement who will be conducting thorough grid searches on both sides of the river.”

Police said the case remains active and did not want to panic the community over an increased police presence.

“We would like the public to be aware of these comprehensive search efforts so as not to cause alarm. We would also like to reassure the public that this case remains extremely active, and the department along with our law enforcement partners will dedicate the resources necessary to find Samantha. Our aggressive search for answers in her disappearance will continue and we will provide updates as they become available,” the department said.
