UTICA, NY – A domestic dispute between a man and a woman escalated after her children tried to intervene to separate the couple.

At around 9:50 am on Tuesday, officers were dispatched in response to a previous altercation on Mohawk Street earlier in the morning hours. After arriving at the undisclosed second location, a female victim told police that she and her children’s father had engaged in an argument earlier at the Mohawk Street home.

“As the argument escalated, the children attempted to separate the parties, and de-escalate the situation, however the male party began to physically push the children and threaten them,” Utica police said today. “The argument continued to escalate until the male retrieved a handgun and began to threaten the female and the children. At one point, according to the victim, the male placed the handgun against her head and began to rack rounds from the chamber, threatening to kill her.”

According to police, she was able to escape the residence with her children and flee to another location, where she ultimately contacted 911.

“Based on the circumstances of the incident, it was determined that in addition to criminal charges, the criteria was met to apply for an Extreme Risk Protection Order (ERPO). This was completed, and the ERPO was successfully obtained through Supreme Court,” the department said,

The male suspect, Daryl White, 41, was arrested and charged accordingly.
