YONKERS, NY – A 16-year-old was jumped by two 17-year-old students inside a bathroom at Yonkers Middle High School on Rockland Avenue Friday morning.

According to police, at around 8 am, the younger student was assaulted by the two older students inside a second-floor bathroom. That fight quickly escalated as one of the 17-year-old boys stabbed the student after punching and kicking him prior.

School security officers intervened and stopped the fight. The knife used during the stabbing was recovered.

The younger student was transported to a local area trauma center in stable condition and is undergoing surgery to treat his injuries.

“Both suspects were placed under arrest and it is anticipated they will be charged with felony assault; due to their ages, no identifying information will be released,” the Yonkers Police Department reported. “The knife has been recovered. The motivation for this incident remains under active investigation. This information is preliminary and subject to change – additional information may be released when available.”

Police said there are no threats to public safety at this time and the school has resumed normal operations.
