CINNAMINSON, NJ – With boom parties on both sides of the Delaware River becoming a quality of life nuisance, Cinnaminson Police Chief Richard Calabrese said today that last night’s car club event held at the parking lot of the Sonic restaurant was not a boom party.

Chief Calabrese said multiple noise complaints were received about the event, which was a memorial event organized by a local car club.

“The car event was bigger than anticipated (approximately 300 vehicles), and there were numerous attendees not following the rules that were put in place by the event organizer,” Calabrese said. “The Cinnaminson Township Police started to disperse the group with the assistance of the event coordinator, but a lot of the attendees took it upon themselves to try and continue the event in the Burlington Coat Factory parking lot and create more of a disturbance.”

He added that social media reports about the police department not responding to calls regarding the event were false.

“There were 5 officers working the night shift and 1 officer working DWI patrol who were all contributing to dispersing the vehicles at both locations along with handling other calls for service,” he added. “With the number of vehicles at the event and the fact that they were going between two locations, it took the Cinnaminson Township Police close to two hours from the first call to properly stop the disturbance.”

He added that the organizer believed he had properly organized the event from the township, but said a few attendees ruined the event for everyone else.
