Bank robber who locked employees in bank vault at gunpoint arrested in East Orange

CHERRY HILL, NJ – Police from multiple agencies executed a search warrant at an East Orange home of a man suspected of robbing the Investors Bank in Cherry Hill at gunpoint.

Camden County Prosecutor Grace C. MacAulay and Cherry Hill Police Chief Robert Kempf reported the arrest and charge of William Ray, 42, of East Orange for the December 22 armed robbery of Investors Bank.

According to the charges, Ray entered the bank at approximately 4:43 p.m., and held employees at gunpoint. After locking the employees in a vault, Ray fled with more than $76,000 in cash.

Detectives from the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit, as well as detectives from the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office Crime Scene Unit, executed a search warrant at Ray’s residence in East Orange, New Jersey, on December 30, 2022, at approximately 6:00 a.m. Cherry Hill Police Department, Moorestown Police Department, East Orange Police Department, Newark Police Department’s Emergency Services Unit, and Federal Bureau of Investigation executed the search warrant.


He was charged for two counts of first degree robbery, weapons possession and two counts of assault.
