BUFFALO, NY – A Buffalo man who stabbed his neighbor in the basement of their shared multi-family home has been convicted by a jury after two hours of deliberation. The five-day trial for Christopher Hinson, 57, ended with a guilty conviction for first-degree assault.

According to police records, Hinson and the victim engaged in an argument on March 25, 2020 inside the basement of their multi-family home.

“During the dispute, the defendant, with the intent to cause serious physical injury, stabbed the victim in the left side of his body with a knife,” Erie County District Attorney John Flynn said in a statement today. “The defendant continued to try to stab the victim as he attempted to flee the attack. The victim was able to escape into his own apartment and called 911 for help.”

The victim was transported by ambulance to ECMC where he underwent emergency surgery and remained hospitalized for four days. The victim, who underwent additional surgery, continues to recover from the injuries.

Hinson is facing 25 years in prison and has been served with an order of protection on behalf of the victim and his girlfriend.
