New Jersey synagogue attacked with Molotov cocktail, FBI investigating

BLOOMFIELD, NJ – A Bloomfield synagogue was attacked by a suspect with a Molotov cocktail on Sunday. The FBI and local authorities are now investigating the incident as a biased attack.

At around 9:30 am on Sunday, a suspect, caught on surveillance video, lit and threw a Molotov cocktail at Temple Ner Tarnid.

Surveillance video released by the Bloomfield Police Department shows a suspect wearing a ski mask lighting a Molotov cocktail near the entrance of the synagogue at around 3:19 am.


It was then thrown at the front door of the building. The bottle broke, but did not cause any damage to the temple.

The investigation is now being conducted by the FBI in cooperation with the ATF and Essex County Prosecutor’s Office.

Nobody was injured during the incident.
