Shore News Network rated more credible than CNN, Fox News, NY Post, MSNBC for third year

Press Release

TOMS RIVER, NJ – Shore News Network, a regional breaking news and government watchdog news website, has once again received high ratings by Newsguard, an industry leader in combatting online misinformation.

For the third straight year, Shore News Network has received trust ratings higher than most mainstream media outlets, including Fox News, CNN, New York Post, and MSNBC.

According to Newsguard, Shore News Network rated 87.5% after its annual audit of the website in December.

When compared to Fox News (69.5%), CNN (80%), New York Post (69%), and MSNBC (57%), Shore News Network was rated higher by Newsguard.

“With all the talk in the media about fake news and misinformation, Shore News Network rises above when it comes to reporting the news,” said CEO and editor Phil Stilton. “We stick to facts and don’t get involved in taking sides in the neverending partisanship that is rampant in mainstream media.”

Stilton, a U.S. Marine Corps veteran says the values he learned as Marine are visible every day by all of the reporters and content producers at Shore News Network.

“One of the first things you learn on your way to becoming a Marine is that Marines never lie,” Stilton said. “Taking that into our business, a reporter never lies. I demand integrity, honesty and truthfulness in every article published on Shore News Network. It has been the foundation of our company’s success. Others can learn a lot from our way of doing things. We know our readers demand truth and facts and are tired of misleading headlines intended to catch a few clicks or generate faux rage on a topic. We deliver news as-is, and we do not insert any personal beliefs or biases into our stories. We hold both sides of the political aisle accountable for their actions.”

Stilton added that Newsguard has quickly become one of the more respectable fact-checking organizations in the country because they also don’t push a partisan agenda.

Shore News Network is an independent news organization that focuses on New Jersey and regional news covering New York, Pennsylvania, Delaware, and Maryland. It was founded in 2008 as a hyperlocal news website focusing on Northern Ocean County. In the 14 years since being founded, it has grown to become one of New Jersey’s most visible news organizations with over 250,000 daily readers in the Mid-Atlantic region.
