25-year-old shot and killed in Jersey City

JERSEY CITY, NJ – Police in Jersey City are investigating a shooting that took place Sunday night in the area of Summit Avenue.

According to the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office, a 25-year-old man was shot and killed at around 9:30 pm.

Police arrived to the area of Summit Avenue and Poplar Street, responding to a 911 call regarding gunshots fired in the neighborhood.


Upon arrival, responding officers located a male victim — later identified as Rafael Gomez, 25, of Jersey City — in the area of 1143 Summit Avenue with an apparent gunshot wound to the torso.

Gomez was transported by Emergency Medical Services to Jersey City Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at approximately 11:09 p.m.

At this time, no arrests have been made and police have not identified any suspects.
