Woman robbed at gunpoint aboard midtown subway train

NEW YORK, NY – A woman was robbed of her purse while riding the A train as it approached the West 14th Street and 8th Avenue subway station in Chelsea Wednesday evening.

According to police, two suspects approached the 32-year-old woman at around 5:40 pm and displayed what appeared to be a gun from under their clothing.

As the train neared the station, the two suspects stole the woman’s purse and fled the train inside the station.

By the time police were notified, the suspects were gone. Police are now asking the public to assist in identifying the suspects.


It was reported to police that on Wednesday, February 1, 2023, at approximately 1740 hours, on a northbound “a” train approaching the West 14th Street-8th Avenue subway station, two unknown individuals approached the 32-year-old female victim. The individuals simulated a firearm and forcibly removed the victim’s purse before fleeing in an unknown direction.
