Long Island City assault being investigated by police

NEW YORK, NY – Police are investigating an attempted rape that happened Wednesday night in Long Island City.

According to detectives with the NYPD, at around 11:40 pm, the suspect followed a 34-year-old woman outside a bathroom in the lobby of a building near Crescent Street and 41st Avenue and started to expose himself to her.

“The victim, a 34-year-old female, was exiting a bathroom inside of a building lobby located in the vicinity of Crescent Street and 41st Avenue when she encountered an unknown male individual outside the bathroom door exposing his privates,” police reported. “The victim attempted to shut the door on the individual when he pushed his way into the bathroom.  The individual grabbed the victim by the face and attempted to pull her pants down.”

Fortunately, a nearby good Samaritan saw the incident and heard the woman scream for help. The perpetrator then fled the scene toward the Queensboro Plaza subway station.


The suspect was described as a male with a dark complexion, 6’4” in height, approximately 180 lbs, and believed to be in his 30’s. The individual was last seen wearing a gray long-sleeve shirt under a black t-shirt, black pants, and a red du-rag.
