12-year-old robbed by man while walking to Lower East Side middle school

NEW YORK, NY – A 12-year-old girl was robbed by a man while making a call on her phone outside of a Lower East Side middle school on Monday.

According to police, at approximately 7:44 am, the 12-year-old female victim was walking to school while talking on her cellphone when an unknown individual snatched the phone from her hands and fled the scene on foot heading southbound on 1st Avenue.

He ran from the rear of the Girls Prep Lower East Side Middle Charter School at 429 East 11 Street.


The girl was unharmed during the incident.

The robbery was witnessed by a 38-year-old male bystander who called the police.

The suspect is described as a male of approximately 5’8″ tall, 170 pounds, with a medium complexion, a medium build, and facial hair.

He was last seen wearing a black winter hat, a black hooded sweatshirt with a yellow “C”, green pants, and black sneakers.
